Thanksgiving 2009

It's been a challenging few weeks with a toddler who feels she runs the roost, is ready to move out and fend for herself ("go away mama/papa" if we try to help), and won't go to sleep (taking up to 2 hours each night!) for fear she'll miss out on something. She's a night-owl just like her Mama.

But the challenges are outweighed with the joys of watching Kristina blossom. And every night when we say our night-night prayers (and I silently add "Please, God, let her fall asleep quickly!!!"), we thank God for bringing us together. She is the gift we are especially appreciative for on this Thanksgiving holiday.

We also want to thank all our family, friends and virtual friends who have followed our journey and supported us the entire way. Your comments encourage me to continue this blog and document Kristina's first year with us.

To each and every one of you,
Happy Thanksgiving!!

A little girl who woke up from her nap just in time for dinner and a sleepy mama who craves a nap more than pecan pie!

Our very own shot of Wild Turkey!

Kristina's first try at pumpkin pie. Yeah...we'll do anything to get our little girl to eat fruit. (And everything tastes great with lots of whipped cream!)

First of many family holiday pictures (but it only took 50+ digital shots to get us all looking in the same direction...)

You all look great. She is getting so big. I hope you had a wonderful first Thanksgiving together. We definitely did. Now how do we keep a 2 year old from getting way too crazy during the rest of the holiday season?!?! Definitely a much happier and thankful holiday season this year.

Happy Thanksgiving... love the feathered headress!

You can't even imagine how may tries it takes to get 3 people looking at the camera when they are all kids! It can be an all-day project!

Hi Laura - What a great family picture! As far as the 2 hours to go to sleep . . . the twins started doing that too and I finally had to give the naps up and stick to a 7 PM every night bedtime and now it's so easy. It's the only thing that worked even though I was worried thinking that they really needed those naps. They were taking 2 hours every night too and it was becoming such a stuggle and drain on me. I tried giving the naps up and it really worked - so well, that I actually had to find a day care that would take them after pre-school (they go to pre-school for therapy and then to day care) that would not make them take a 2 or 3 hour nap every day. Most make them sleep and they don't all need it! They do great during the day now without those naps although, if they need it they will just lay down and take one. Now they come home and do fine right up to 7PM and then go straight to bed peacefully and very happily - such a relief after so many struggles. Maybe Kristina is ready to give up her naps???
