No Like Boomers

The death grip around my neck and waist by Kristina (our little "Miss Independent") on the evening of July 4th, only proves that she's still sensitive to loud sounds. We stayed home and decided to enjoy the free (illegal) fireworks shows put on by several neighborhood "gangs". If we stood in the right spot in the steet, we could see 3-4 different homemade shows that gave the professionals a run for their money. Tina would cover her ears and cry huge tears until I ran into the house for cover. "I don't like the boomers, Mommy" - a phrase we heard for days to follow.

Earlier in the day, Kristina went swimming with Daddy over at Carl & Toni's house so she could play with Tricia and Riley. This gave me a much needed "time out" just so I could find the true color of our kitchen granite countertop under all the clutter and organize toys so I don't find myself whispering expletives under my breath as I step on "Little People" toys in the middle of the night. It was for only 2 hours and I would have much preferred to swim with her but the stress I've been starting to feel about not having a spare minute to get things done has begun to overwhelm me.

What I did notice is that Kristina came home with green hair! Last year, I purchased a special conditioning shampoo to be used after swimming in a chlorinated pool because I knew it was inevitable (would never tell Jon how much I spent on the shampoo...) but yikes ~ we had a little alien on our hands! It took 2 days but she's back to being our blonde beauty.

It's been a busy couple of weeks and I'll soon post a June in Review post. I've written posts in my mind for 2 weeks but haven't found the time to actually sit down and type them up. But no worries...the camera is never far so I'll just fill you in with lots of pics how lovely our little angel is growing up. I've been noticing over the last few weeks just how much she is growing up ~ saying things that leave me speechless, dancing freely to music on the TV that leaves me smiling, and hugs so tight with "mommy, i love you"s that continue to bring tears to my eyes.

As we continue to be amazed with our little one, we are thrilled for other families traveling to Ekat to complete their family. "Welcome home," Gina, who just got home last week with 3 y.o. Ella and a sincere "Bon Voyage" to Rich and Carol who leave tomorrow to go to court in Ekat to bring a little boy and girl into their family. Even with all the negative publicity regarding Russian adoptions (definitely mis-weighted in a negative light since the majority of cases end up happy), it is heartwarming to hear of families continuing to go to Ekat (and Russia, in general) to provide beautiful children with loving families and homes.

Fingers crossed and prayers being said for our other friends Beth & Enrico, Josh & Jinell, Sandy & husband, Mary, Sandy & Joe, JP & Don ~ just to name a few ~ who are patiently awaiting court dates. We are living vicariously through you guys since we'd love to go back....but just can't swing it. Wait...I just found 4 more Lotto tickets that haven't been checked yet. Will keep you posted!

Our little patriotic girl! Check out those stars and stripes!

Like a true model, she has the hair flinging action down pat!

Definitely not the same little girl we brought home last year. Kristina is getting so big!

Gotta love America -- where the hot dog is the national favorite!

Unprovoked (really!!), this is the book Kristina chose to read before going to bed. "The Pledge of Allegiance". Thank you, Molly
Making up a few words, but nonetheless -- Kristina reads the book!

What long, luxurious hair...tinted green!

OH my gosh. She is so adorable. I love her long hair. You better be ready to fight off all the guys. They'll be swarming all over her! Amazing how quickly they are growing up.

Who wouldn't want to flip their hair if they looked that adorable in a red, white, and blue swimsuit?!?!

She's such a gorgeous girl!! And such big changes from last year for sure! You'll have to tell me what shampoo you used on the green -- my cousin's daughters are facing the same situation this year!!

Another thing our little chickies have in common. Tatiana does NOT like "fireworks" either. For the 4th the fireworks are shot off over Lake Huron - so we sit on a hill about a mile away at a golf course and watch. Makes the in and out lots easier and it T was much happier because you can barely hear them. She'll tell you they were FAR FAR AWAY. I don't know what we'll do this August during the city festival - 3 blocks away and SUPPPPPPER loud!!

WOW! all that hair without a hollywood weave involved? go kristina! that is awesome and a true sign of love, being loved, and great health with those gorgeous locks of hers... glad you honored yourself with a little "down time" -- you deserve and need it, and, in the end, we are better parents for our kids when we actually sneak some of it in :) looking forward to new photos when you have time :)

Wow! Look at how long and healthy Kristina's hair has grown. She's a little cutie-pie in her patriotic bikini!

My sister's white-blonde hair turned green at 4-H camp one summer (when she was about 10 years old) because there was too much chlorine in the pool. We called her the "greeny-haired monster". Yeah I know... we were cruel.
