2-year Post-Placement Report DONE!

We first met Theresa back on June 2, 2008.  I remember being nervous knowing she would be the social worker interviewing us, touring our home and eventually writing up our HomeStudy report -- the report that would go to Russia telling officials and judges more data about us than our family and friends know.

Nerves quickly dissipated that day when she walked into our house and headed right to the terrarium (where our Jon's 3-foot ball python snake lives) and asked "Oh, you have a snake, too?"   I'm sure our parents thought the adoption may be "off" if Russia knew we had a snake, but apparently, it was not an issue with our super-cool Social Worker (who conveniently left the snake info out of our report..!).

This past Monday on March 14th, Theresa made her 4th trek out to our part of the world to fulfill our 2-year post-placement report requirement.  About 15 minutes prior to her arrival, Kristina's rambunctious side kicked in.  Dear God -- she can't be on a chocolate high now!   Jon brought her outside to play on the tire swing and that seemed to do the trick.

She loves to spinnnnnnnnn!!!  Take note of the drunken sailor wobble afterwards...
Happiness is...our little girl.
When Theresa arrived, Kristina hid behind my leg pretending to be shy which lasted 20 seconds.  It didn't take long before she started telling Theresa about her butterfly chair and drawing pictures for Theresa to take home.  The meeting lasted about 75 minutes and it went really well.  We're blessed.  We don't have many issues but we did discuss Kristina's friendly hellos and conversations with complete strangers.  (It's not uncommon for Kristina to yell across the street, "Hey, what's your name?").

Kristina then got to show off her new big girl bed before Theresa left.  As we went back into the house after waving good-bye, Kristina was bummed.  Theresa forgot to take the masterpieces that Kristina drew for her.  Oh, well---maybe I'll save them for next year's 3-year post-placement report...which will be our LAST!
Theresa and Kristina.  I only regret not having taken pictures of them together at the 6-month and 1-year PPR meetings to show just how much Kristina has changed.  (Yes, one wardrobe change did occur during the meeting!)
We celebrated by going to our favorite restaurant "The Bear Pit."
Kristina's favorite meal these days:  chicken legs!

Isn't it great to be at that point??? Can't tell you the feelings and mixed up emotions I had when we had done our three year. . .I did take all those pictures of our post placement visit and now have them hung in a multi picture frame on a "bragging wall" where there are several pictures of Aidan at various stages. . .love it! Kristina looks fantastic and Aidan does that same thing, still, about yelling out to some stranger--across the street or whereever--HI! Who are you??? Where do you live??? It is uncomfortable, but I am always reassured in that we are always notified by Aidan's loud voice of what is going on! I think (hope) that will change as they grow up.

After having been lucky enough to recently meet Kistina, in person, I know that she is a very happy, loving, affectionate and caring little girl, who absolutely adores her parents. The loving bond that Jon, Laura and Kristina have is heartwarming. Kristina really complements Jon and Laura making them a family. Laura, my friend, I am so happy for you and can't wait to see you again! :)
Much love, Anna(OH)

Wow ... 2 years ... I remember sitting here and reading your entries about being in Ekat for a month and waiting to bring Kristina home!!!! Roman does the same thing ... asking people their name or "what's in your lip...it's a piercing" .. I like that he's curious but we are still cautious!!!

She looks great!!!

Wanted to include a post from my childhood/lifelong friend, Lisa, in OH, which was sent via e-mail:

"It's hard to believe it's been two years since your adoption journey started. It's a happy day getting a "Russian Angel" update, watching Kristina grow with such loving parents. Kristina won the jackpot when the two of you walked into her life. Just watching the love grow in your family is simply amazing.

Love You All ~ Lisa"
