Teachers and parents probably know what I'm talking about -- the color card system that indicates a child's behavior at school that day: green card = good behavior, yellow card = a couple of problems, orange card = several problems, and red card = severe problems. Everyday, up until today, Kristina's folder proudly beamed with a green box representing a green card day.
Today was different. When I picked her up at 5:30pm, Kristina was spazzy, running all over the place with another kid, hiding under tables (like I can't spot that white hair anywhere!) - ugh. When I saw the yellow on her homework folder, all the fun was over. No monkey bars today which made for a very unhappy child -- "crying" for 15 minutes non-stop all the way home and as we got settled into the house.
We had our "come to Jesus" meeting at which time I learned she got into trouble for talking to a boy when they were supposed to be doing Math ~ quietly. Great --- trouble with boys already ... and she doesn't even know his name!
We're optimistic that the remainder of the month will be all green. We even roll-played Kristina working on something and I tried to engage her in talking. Ha -- we'll see if it works!
This parenting gig isn't easy...and yeah, yeah ---- I know.
We haven't seen anything yet!
One week in school and already a yellow card! Sigh...
Pictures from yesterday...
Before going to the "other side"!
Yesterday, our angel wanted a new hairdo. Creativity is limited at 6:45 in the morning!
On our way to school, Kristina called out "Kitty, Kitty" and sure enough, kitty came out from behind the bushes. Kristina has been calling for this local stray cat since she was 3.
Kristina showing me her classroom and her teacher in the doorway.
Uncle Jim in FL was on the cell phone sending Kristina hugs -- and she reciprocated back!

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry. The district where Colby went ot Pre-K also uses green, yellow, red, to try to support a Positive Behavior program. Well, my little man didn't get yellows now and then, he got reds. UGH! (I think they might have only used green and red which I think is wrong.) For what you might ask.... Talking, giggling, and drumming on the table at lunch. Oh boy! Good luck to his Kindergarten teacher!

It's okay....it's only the first one...And I love those "Come to Jesus" meetings....please let us know if it worked cause I may be needing it soon.
oy vey. if your kristina is getting yellows, i can only imagine what will happen with my little "must wiggle and jiggle at all times" boy next year.. I am sure the come to jesus talk will help her a bit... the good news is, b/c she was always green, you have a very clear "monitor" of her stress -- and that kindergarten expectations are pushing her to her end silly limits and reducing her judgement. Plus, come on, really? is anyone else very worried about the too high expectations on kids in kindergarten these days! kristina, may the green force be with you tomorrow!
I'm telling you our girls were cut from the same mold. LOL! Lexi came home yesterday with "orange" and a note that said she was putting dirt in her hair on the playground and wouldn't stop. When I asked her about it she grinned real big and said that she was playing with her best friend "A" and "A" told her to pretend the dirt was pixie dust. They were sprinking it on their heads so they could fly like TinkerBell. (Okay, I couldn't help but giggle at that explaination, but tried not to let Lexi see me.)
Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, I found another note in her take-home folder that said she was spinning around in circles during quiet time and didn't stop when asked to, but instead encouraged a few boys to join her.
We also had a serious talk (well, at least I was serious) and she has promised to do better at behaving. We shall see...I personally think it's going to be a looooong year.
