Our Happy Camper

On Tuesday, July 31st, Kristina began her two-week stint at Summer Camp.  It was kinda like a warm-up to attending "big girl school" (Kindergarten) -- which starts this next week on Tuesday, August 14th.  Summer Camp is held on the campus of Kristina's new elementary school and it is a part of our local YMCA.

So.....how did she do???

Personally, I think she did great.  I have to say, I admire my daughter.  She is self-confident, gregarious, and not afraid of new situations.  Sure -- we had to go back for another hug, and another, and another after saying "See you later" before heading off to work.  But overall, Kristina just blended in with the other kids and joined their groups.  I, on the other hand, was terribly shy as a kid and could never do what she does...

During the two weeks, Kristina had a few firsts:
* She rode on a big yellow school bus.  She went to California State University, Northridge, (both mommy and daddy's alma mater) to see the play "Snow White"
* She ate seaweed
* She ate carrots with ranch dressing (we've tried a million times and it took them one time!)

Kristina also went on two other field trips:
* Splash Park (in 105+ degree weather, Kristina had a ball -- and didn't burn!)
* Long Beach Aquarium - and got to touch the starfish, see sea lions, "but couldn't touch the big sharks."

The one thing we have noticed since attending camp -- our night owl can't "hang" anymore!!  She's wiped out during dinner stating "I'm too tired to eat."  I now get her in the bath as soon as we walk through the front door to avoid her falling asleep by 7:30 without a much needed bath!  This is what happens with no naps at camp and big girl school!

First day at Summer Camp - and sporting a slight tan from being in Santa Barbara for the weekend!
Ah, yes, one of Kristina's many signature poses for the camera!
"Look how long my hair is, Grammy!"
Arriving at Summer Camp
A fellow camper, Damian, introduced Kristina to her new cubby.

My last glimpse back at Kristina who stands at the top of the ramp and waves "good-bye" everyday.  Sigh...I just want to run back and hug this girl!

Out for the count on Day 1 by 7:15pm.
Day 2:  "Daddy, take my picture again!"  Our shy child...
Giving Daddy one more hug (getting ready to go to CSUN to see Snow White).  Daddy adores his little girl!

Our little monkey LOVES the monkey bars -- and she's strong!  She never puts both arms on the same bar and can complete all bars with her eyes closed!  If the Olympics determine "Monkey Bar Swinging" as an official sport, I know a good contender!

Showing off her New York t-shirt for my New York peeps!

Just another day on the job...

Kristina wants to show off her two-braids tied into one pony tail!

As usual, Kristina leads the way into school.  I don't look forward to the day when she asks me to park 3 blocks away so the kids at school don't see me dropping her off!

"My YMCA t-shirt!"  Going to the Long Beach Aquarium.

"Mommy - and let me tell you one more thing...drive carefully and pick me up early."  My daily orders.

On a day when Jon takes Kristina to school and I leave for work first, Kristina runs down the sidewalk waving me away.  I always want to turn the car around and just spend the day with her.

Last day of Camp -- found a lucky feather and sporting her medal to commemorate the last day of the Summer Olympics in London!

Standing in front of one of the rose bushes Kristina loves to ask Uncle Marc "Can I have a rose, please?"

Getting ready to wave as I leave for work.

Guess who lost her 2nd tooth (bottom front/right side) on the last day of Summer Camp???  (Yes - there was a wardrobe change...Kristina got water on her other clothes and can't stand to be wet...even a little!)  The teacher put the tooth in a larger plastic tooth that has a cord attached -- so Kristina could wear it and not lose the tooth!!
Since Kristina fell asleep early --- before placing her tooth under her pillow --- the tooth fairy will have to come over the weekend!  Next blog entry, plus the start of Kindergarten (sigh) - stay tuned!

Great photos! Her hair got so long! She and Colby are so much alike, it's scary. I love how outgoing and adventerous they are, but yet still need their hugs and kisses. Colby can't wait for school to start (the 27th here). I'm dreading the first day. They are getting too big, much too fast.
