"She must look like her father!"

I swear, if I had a dollar for every time I heard this comment, we'd be able to afford to go back to Russia to bring home a sibling for Kristina!

In the last week, I've heard these words twice. But in the last few months, I have heard it over and over again ---- from virtual strangers who just feel compelled to let me know this fact. Recently, 3 comments have been said at Costco. I can only assume that since we have this common bond of buying toilet paper and ketchup in bulk, these strangers feel comfortable enough to make such comments. One person even had the gall to add "...because she doesn't look anything like you."

And how do I respond? I guess I could go into the gorey details of our infertility attempts, the joy of pregnancy and despair of pregnancy loss, and our adventure across the world to adopt ~ that would really clear things up, don't you think? Well, instead I just agree -- "Yes, she looks just like her dad did when he was her age." Period.

Don't you think so?? :)
JD around the age of 3.

Kristina at 20 months (Trip #1) --- wearing a similar outfit as Papa when he was little!

She does look a lot like her dad did! However, I think a better response would be: "Actually, she looks much more like the mailman. I'm not really sure why..."

Don't you just "love" that?
I think sometimes people are just trying to make conversation, but if they just had a view in our families they wouldn't go there.
I love the pic of JD at 3, and how cute that you have one of Kristina in a matching outfit.

Thankfully I haven't been asked that exact question but people have made the comment to Mike that he looks just like him. Yeah sure, blue eyes and blond hair next to blue eyes red hair. Actually they do look very much alike. One person did make me uncomfortable however when they said how lucky we were that Colby really "fit" into the family, looking just like a couple of his cousins. I KNOW I'm lucky, and so are you. Because we have happy, healthy children!

Wow! Absolutely! Our Aidan looks just like his Daddy, too. . .isn't funny how many people feel compelled to make a comment? My favorite has been, "If I didn't know. . ." Sheesh!

Sigh... makes you want to have a snappy comeback to put them in their place. But, what you say is probably better. Why do people think it is any of their business?

The nurse at my ped office ALWAYS does that with the kids... who do you look like? Then one day she told me that a father got really upset with her. I told her that you never know, the child could be adopted or from a donor egg or sperm... you can't just make assumptions. She appreciated the new perspective and I haven't heard much of the "who do you look like?" since then. I know she was completely well-intentioned. But complete strangers... best to just let them think what they want.

Cute pics too... of both!

The minute your showed me K's picture at the Russian Restaurant in January, I couldn't believe how much she looks like her Daddy. I think with time you just get used to the dumb comments and move on. People are rude! I miss you!

We get that same "quote" about how Nick looks JUST like Chris. Whatever! that picture of JD does have an incredible resemblance though. Christina is prettier though! :)

On the picture -- That is stunning, amazing, and totally cool...

On the comments -- Isn't it amazing that total strangers think they are entitled to even think about Kristina, let alone comment on it?

The good news is, she is with you, and you are with her... And whatever else anyone comments, bottom line is she is yours, and you are hers...

They could be twins. Love it.

You can say whatever you like...that is my opinion.

One time when I was in line at Wally world the clerk asked me if my biological son was 1/2 Asian??!! I said...not that I know of...ha.

He's not so it was really funny, but when he was a baby he was so chubby and when he smiled you couldn't see his eyes. It makes me giggle now.

Just read this! Love it! Don't you love how complete strangers feel free to ask the most intimate questions? I think you handled it much better than I would have.

I thought the 1st picture was Kristina and was wondering why you cut her hair so short. Great photos! People say the same thing about Roman. We find it hilarious so Jeff and I laugh with our light green eyes as Roman stares at them with his dark brown beams.

Why, yes, yes she does look like her dad at that age!

I know most people just don't know better, but where are their manners? People always comment about how much Lexi looks like me or our boys. I just smile and agree because I know they mean well (even though none of us have her awesome green eyes). But we APs know we would love our children just as much without regard to their physical appearance

Kristina looks so cute in bright blue!

This cracked me up... I get the same comment all the time... as you know I am blonde and Kavanna is CHINESE!!!

I got the same comment with my bio daughter Ariel. People would say, "What a beautiful child. She must look like her father."

Huh?

Kristina looks exactly like herself, and that's a beautiful thing. Can't wait to see you all on Sunday!!

Hugs,
Nina
