The best of "firsts"

Since Kristina didn't come into our lives for good until she was about 28 months old, we missed alot of her "firsts". We don't know when she took her first steps, or when her first tooth appeared, or what her first word was.

But due to these same circumstances, we have so many of her "firsts with us" either on video or in pictures. And then if it's not on either of those, I document it here.

Tonight I write this entry from bed. JD is at the hospital visiting his dad who needed a procedure and is doing well. The Winter Olympics are flickering on the TV in the background and I'm listening to my angel breathe as she lays next to me. I should be catching up on either folding laundry, emptying a dishwasher or catching up on much needed lost sleep.

Instead, I have to post about one of Kristina's "firsts" that we have waited so long for. Tonight at dinner time, Kristina took her usual spot next to Papa at the dinner table and waited with great anticipation for her bowl of Mac & Cheese. Nope -- tonight I wasn't feeling the whole Julia Childs' thing. Then all of a sudden, she looked at Jon and said "I yahv you, Papa." I nearly cried -- a totally unsolicitied, unprovoked "I love you, Papa" a la Kristina style. For about the last 6 weeks, Kristina has said "Yahv You" but only after we say it --- never initiating it on her own.

Then about an hour ago, with Jon at the hosptial, I took her into our bedroom and we laid down together. She was mesmerized watching the women figure skaters when all of a sudden, she rolls over to face me. This reminded me of the first morning we ever woke up together, in Moscow -- face to face, nose to nose, literally. However, this time as she faces me with no more than an inch between our noses, she cupped both her little hands on my jawline and said "I yahv you, Mommy." (BTW: Kristina started calling me Mommy about 4 weeks ago, which we got on video when at the Russian Christmas Dinner!)

A few great moments for Mommy and Papa today! :)

Isn't that the best feeling. The first unsolicited love you or hug and kiss are the best. She looks so peaceful sleeping there. What a great day!

what an awesome, tear rising post... just wonderful... her patient parents waited so long to hear those words... and i am glad you did -- unprovoked... we have same here- we say it, he says it... but without prompts, not yet... thank you for taking the time from your other ADLs & sleep to share this moment with all of us... no doubt the smile on your face as you drifted off was bigger than ever.. :)
