The Judge said....

It was 2 1/2 months ago when we stood in court in Ekaterinburg in front of the Judge who held our fate in her hands. And you know what? The Judge said there'd be days like this!!!

I remember when she was asking me questions, she specifically said "There will be days you will not feel well and unable to fulfill your motherly duties. Do you have support? And are you still willing to adopt this child?" Uh, yes and, of course, yes!

And so today, I struggled all day to feed, entertain, participate in play time, etc. as I have come down with a bad case of strep throat --- a follow-up recurrence to the strep throat I acquired the week before going on our cruise 4 weeks ago. I went to the doctor's and got more antibiotics and was told if it comes back again, I should see a Specialist (??? -- I've had enough of Specialists since we saw 8 of them to make it to Court!).

Well, I'll spare everyone of the details but the antibiotics have done a number on my system and my poor little girl was so patient with me today since I was so sick. My throat and lymph nodes are still so sore/swollen and I'm so lethargic, you'd think I was drugged. For the first time in two months, I took a nap with my daughter -- for a FULL HOUR!!! Who-hoo! Finally by dinnertime, I took Kristina outside (it was over 100 degrees F) so she could take a walk and play on her slide.

One of the hardest things to do when sick is not kissing her and sharing food -- two of Kristina's favorite things to do. Kristina is so affectionate and will snuggle into me when in bed or on the couch, stare me in the face -- literally eyeball to eyeball -- and then smack me with one of her toothy kisses (she doesn't stop smiling to kiss sometimes).

This is how our darling likes to sleep with me...

I do have to thank Jon for helping out so much on Monday (his day off) when the strep was surfacing. He was so wonderful making her breakfast, getting her dressed (or atleast "supervising"), playing outside, etc. And I have to say -- a few weeks ago when on vacation, she was pushing him away looking for Mama. Now she can't get enough of her Papa!!

Kristina and Papa....my Hero!

Fingers are crossed I'll be feeling better tomorrow as I'm crawling into bed earlier tonight in the hopes of beating this. Afterall, I must uphold my "motherly duties"! I have such an appreciation for all parents out there who do it all -- whether you feel good or not, with or without support -- parenting is not easy! Bless you all!

I just linked to your blog by another and could not help but post about my experience with throat infections as an adult. I too was told 1 more infection and off to the specialist. The doctor told me to gargle with 1/4 teas salt plus 1/4 teas soda in 8 oz warm water as often as needed. From that point on, I never had another infection and did not ever have to see a specialist. You might try it, it is a cheap treatment and so soothing to the throat and does not gag you like salt water alone.

It is by far the hardest job...but alas, the most rewarding.

Hang in there, feel better, and don't refuse help!

Love you,

Oh man... I feel your pain! Just a few weeks ago, one week after we arrived home from Korea, I came down with a fever that lasted 6 days until I persuaded the dr. to give me antibiotics. (He was convinced it was viral.) The worst part of this full-time mothering gig... no sick days! Does she like TV or videos? They can be your best friend on days like this. Hang in there and feel better soon!

I think you are doing great! She knows her Mommy is feeling yucky and wants you to feel better. Such a cutie. Having help is such a blessing!

Laura, I hope you are feeling better and I'm so happy to hear that Kristina is affectionate and gives kisses and snuggles ... I worry about that and what our boys will be like ... hard not to when they BEAT you over the head with the "A" word throughout the adoption process but Kristina looks so happy AND attached to you and Jon!

Feel better!
