Yesterday, Kristina went to get her hair cut because in two weeks, she will be the Flower Girl at my first Goddaughter, Kendra's, wedding! The dress is ready, shoes bought, and I figured it was time to start thinking about the fancy hairdo she'll be sporting that day.
Kristina sat very well in the seat while Shushan cut her hair. Kristina said it was like "snowing" when she saw her cut hair fall to the surface of the black cape she was wearing. (How does a 3 y.o. So. CA girl know much about snow? Not sure she remembers much from the motherland...!)
When I asked Shushan if she thought Kristina's hair would hold a curl, she said "
Let's see!" So she curled it. And oh, my....she looked so adorable! It lasted several hours until Kristina started putting hairbands in her hair (she LOVES to wear her hair in a pony tail).
Right before going to bed, Kristina went into her room to get her PJ's on. After about 3 minutes and she hadn't returned for her evening snack (chocolate milk), I went looking for her. What I found will be forever engrained in my mind. Her door was 95% shut and the room was dark except for the nightlight we leave on. I turned on the light and to my horror, Kristina stood there with kiddie scissors in her bangs, and hair the lengths of 1-3 inches all on the floor. I immediately began crying "
oh my God " and Jon came running in not knowing what to expect. I was sooooo upset that I had to leave the room and Jon took over. I think I cried for 15 minutes straight. I was terrified to go back in and see the extent of the "damage".
Kristina and Jon eventually came out and Kristina apologized "
Don't be sad, mommy. I'm sorry." Jon scooped up the cut hair (he wanted some of her hair as a "souvenier" ~ but not this way!) and I assessed exactly how much hair Kristina elected to trim herself. The bangs are erratic and her left side is where she cut the length from. The right side went unscathed. Is it salvagable? Yes ~ it definitely could have been so much worse. I'm going to try and curl it myself tomorrow to see if we can "hide" our Vidal Sasson-wanna-be's talents. I should probably take her to Shushan and have her even it all out but I'm afraid she'll walk out with some sort of shag hairdo...
Here's a few photos of our haircut outing:

Kristina sat still...like a pro!

Quite angelic...with no indication of what was in store for later!

First time this hair has EVER seen a curl!

And the evidence discovered of a toddler gone wild!
And what does she look like now? Stay tuned....more pics to come soon (after I try and work some magic).

I think Anna cut her hair 3 times....not terribly bad but still. I still cringe when she picks up the scissors. I ask her if she is going to make a good choice. hahaha!
This is like a rite of passage! The curls are beautiful!
I love the curls in her hair. Your description is right: angelic. Thank goodness Colby hasn't tried that one. I can't wait to see photos of the wedding.

I think every mom of a little girl shares a similar story! I wasn't home from the hospital after having Nicholas more than 10 minutes when I discovered Emma (then 3) standing in my bathroom with brand new 1-inch bangs. All you can do is laugh and be grateful you have a new memory!

every mother has to experience the horror of their child cutting their hair!i think it is a right of passage into the motherhood sorority. too bad it was right before a wedding :( she is so cute i doubt anyone will notice.
The curls are lovely... and I am sure they will hide any remnants of the home hair-cut.
All our art supplies (scissors, crayons, glue sticks, markers) are in a plastic storage box on a high shelf and come out only under supervision. Am I "smothering" their creativity? Maybe. But I prefer that to letting my mischief makers "decorate" my walls... LOL!
Here's a message from my friend, Lisa in OH:
"I can laugh now, but I didn't laugh then when Sarah did the exact same thing at about the exact same age . . . just before pictures. You will find a way to hide the "damage" and it will grow out and in the years to come it will be something you will smile about. Try some curls and pull the sides back with some pretty clips on each side. Best of luck Mom! :o) "
Oh my! I'm sure she is absolutely adorable even with an avant garde hairstyle!
LOve the curls...she will be the most beautiful flower girl no matter what.
Sorry about the hair drama...too funny tho!
Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! It totally happens to the.best of us. :) She is so crazy adorable! !!!!!! We all laugh after the fact. ;)
Someone already said it but I think every Mom with a daughter has a similar story ... I remember when my neice did the same thing at 3yo ... she had such a short haircut for such a long time ... the curls are A..DORABLE ... I'm sure you will work some magic with your "fix" ... can't wait to see the pictures!!!
Christine
LOVE THE CURLS!! Being the mom of 2 boys I do not get to do fancy hair dos since Mattie likes his hair nice and short and Jake just goes with the flow. Can not wait to see her all dressed up for the wedding!!!
Beth, Mattie, and Jake
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH no!!!! Ok well the first haircut and curls were beautiful!!
I wanted to add another message sent via e-mail:
"Timing is everything - Both your goddaughters especially Riley have decided to TRIM - butcher their bangs and sides of their hair - Riley had a very lopsided do for a couple of months - Don't worry curls or a well placed sparkle pin hides a little girls chop job
Scissors no more in her room?
Love ya TOL"
